Jennifer, thanks for helping to spread the word about how Reiki can benefit both patients and health care professionals. I saw these benefits firsthand during my 15-month Reiki internship at New York's Beth Israel Medical Center, offering treatment to patients on the surgical floor as part of a program supervised by my teacher, Pamela Miles, who has created several such programs at prominent hospitals.

I particularly appreciate the points you made in your Editor's Note. Understanding the principle of informed consent and knowing how to communicate simply and clearly what Reiki is -- and is not -- are part of the clinical skills that are essential for any practitioner who hopes to offer treatment in a conventional health care setting. Taking Pamela's two-day Medical Reiki workshop gave me the advantage of having these skills when I walked onto the floor; for those who cannot attend such a class, I recommend visiting her site, reikiinmedicine.org, and digging into the trove of information there, including medical papers published in peer-reviewed journals.

Although more doors are opening, practitioners should be aware that they may still face some skepticism or resistance from hospital staff. I have found that the most effective way to counter this is to respect their rules, keep a low profile and let them see that you are there to support them in their healing work. The results of Reiki treatment speak for themselves, and no doctor or nurse will ever complain about having calmer, more relaxed patients who sleep better and maybe even require less medication!

It is crazy how something like soup can be so symbolic of our life. All these ingredients, a lot of heat, time....put together make something wonderful! Of course, then again, raw chicken is not so great on its own and neither is raw heat. The perfect combination, though, gives us something that heals. Physically and emotionally.

Sounds like your day was very serene!

I love how you said this: But my soul is here for experience, not security....because it is so true!

I think the steps you have made in the past four months alone are GIANT and your progress is beautiful.

I love the vision board, too :)
